SBIG COMPLETES 3RD SUCCESSFUL MISSION TO NEW LIFE ORPHANAGE

June 2010 marked the third successful trip to Ghana to provide a computer lab and library
for an orphanage. The SBIG U.S.-based contingent consisted of 5 students including:
Alex Balog, Brendan Barry, Thomas Killian, Jr, Kenny Nyameke, and Andew Soulas and
three adults including Abdel Banda, Richard Killian, and Tom Killian. We were joined
in Ghana by a 7 person team from 1Village-Africa, our local technology partner, and by a
team from Global Media Alliance, our local communications partner.

This year, after a detailed Needs Assessment process during which we considered
8 potential recipients, the SBIG Board selected New Life International Children’s
Home (New Life) located in Ansapatu, Central Region near Cape Coast. New Life has
approximately 150 orphans and students and is adjacent to St. Peters Anglican School
which has about 500 students and Effutu Middle and High School, which has about
445 students. In total, approximately 1,100 students will now have access to computer
training that will be included in the national evaluation testing beginning in 2011. New
Life is led by Mr. Derrick Fletcher Gaisie who has a strong background in information
and computer technology (ICT) training and will be supported by Mr. James Doughan
who will provide daily ICT training using a curriculum for each grade level published by
the Ministry of Education in Ghana.

For New Life, SBIG provided 20 low voltage Inveneo desktop computers, 2 laptop
computers, a LCD projector, and printer, along with a battery pack and inverter to
provide back-up power. SBIG provided all the desks, chairs and tables, lighting fixtures,
fans, doors and security features for the computer lab. In addition, we supplied 6 book
shelves, 2 reading tables and 8 chairs for the new library which was stocked with 20
boxes of age appropriate books (approximately 1,500 books).

In addition to the books and computers we provided to New Life, SBIG also delivered 40
boxes of used books and 10 used computers to BASCO and Good Shepherd orphanages
that were 2008 and 2009 recipients of SBIG efforts. In total, this year we were blessed
with the donation of 60 boxes of used books (approximately 12,000 lbs of books), 5
boxes of used computers (10 computers), and 3 boxes of toys, candy and balls, etc. We
extend our sincere thanks to the Women of Calvary Episcopal Church in Summit, NJ for
their donations of approximately 30 of the boxes of used books, to Delbarton School for
their donations of books and other support, and to Mike Moran and DDI Leasing for the
donation of 10 used Dell Computers that will support existing computer labs at BASCO
and GSO.
